Reasons Liverpool is a vegetarian and vegan haven

Love Thy Neighbour on Bold Street

Be spoilt for choice at Liverpool’s hottest Street Food Market

The Baltic Market has taken Liverpool by storm, with its collection of street food traders offering up some of the tastiest food in the city. Meat free foodies are also well catered for. Highlights include Hafla Hafla who serve up some of the tastiest halloumi fries you will ever try and Frijol cooking up mouth-watering tacos. The vendors change frequently meaning there’s always something new to try.

Hassle free food shopping

There are plenty of places to food shop in Liverpool that are filled with vegetarian and vegan goodies. The Purple Carrot of Smithdown is exclusively vegan and where you’ll be able to get your hands on veganise and tofurky. Matta’s on Bold Street is an international food store with animal free products from around the world, whilst Liv, also on Bold Street, is an indoor health food market with plenty on offer.

Stack your tiffin boxes high

Mowgli is bringing Indian street food to Liverpool and you can find them on both Bold Street and Water Street. Tiffin tiers are an Indian stable, often referred to as a workman’s meal. Boxes filled with delicious curries and rice stacked high to create a portable feast. Head on down there now to find out what the fuss is about.

Indulge in some junk food

Has #whatfatveganseat filled you with serious food fomo? Well no more! Down the Hatch is Liverpool’s first vegetarian and vegan junk food destination and it’s serving up all the fried delights you could ever want. Don’t be surprised to see meat eaters in there too – the food is just that good!

Punk afternoon tea anyone?

Afternoon tea is having a bit of a revival and there’s no reason you should miss out on this quintessentially British experience just because you’re a vegetarian or vegan. There’s plenty of places that service animal free versions, like Cuthberts Bakery, but our favourite has got to be at Baltic Social. Here, they serve their infamous Punk Afternoon tea. Instead of dainty finger sandwiches, tuck into vegan mac n cheese, salt n pepper tofu and buffalo cauliflower wings, alongside some delicious sweet treats.

Get yourself to Bold Street

Bold Street is the Liverpool destination for independent restaurants, and you will find an insane vegetarian and vegan offerings. Love Thy Neighbour, the one with the very Instagramable pink wall, offers delicious buddha bowls, loaded sweet potato fries and the best smoothie bowls in the city. Across the road at Maray, try their Disco Cauliflower. They roast it in secret spices, and then smoother it in harissa, yoghurt, pomegranate and toasted almonds – yum!
